Speech Language Pathologist - Speech Therapy
St. John's Hospital Camarillo
We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to join our team. The
ideal candidate will have experience working with patients with
communication and language disorders, as well as a passion for
helping people improve their quality of life through speech
therapy. -
Responsibilities
- Conducts annual performance reviews as assigned by Therapy
Manager/Supervisor and works to assist other speech therapists in
improving job performance. -
- Accurately identifies patient's functional deficits/dysfunction
through review of the medical record, through observation of the
patient, through information obtained from the patient/family, and
through assessment of expressive/receptive language, motor speech,
cognitive/linguistic hearing, voice and swallowing and other speech
therapy assessment techniques.
- Communicates regularly with other members of the healthcare
team regarding goals, progress and rehab potential. Works as a
collaborative member of the treatment team. -
- Maintains current skills and competency by attending at least
one continuing education course annually and at least 1
department/hospital inservice a month -
- Consistently and accurately documents care of the patient on
day care is delivered, using both hospital and department policies.
Uses clear, concise and objective data.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs
and evaluates effectiveness of learning.
- Family is included in teaching, as appropriate.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly and is
knowledgeable in care and maintenance of all therapy equipment in
department.
- Demonstrates correct technique of accepted speech therapy
procedures including strategies and techniques to increase
cognitive/linguistic skills, speech intelligibility, functional
math and reading skills, communication skills and safe
swallowing.
- Represents and promotes therapy services to hospital staff,
volunteers, patients and visitors through use of tact, good
judgement, positive attitude and effective communication
skills.
- Makes appropriate recommendations regarding the patient's plan
of care to the physician, case managers, nursing and other health
care team members. -
- Demonstrates good time management skills and assists in
monitoring and maintaining productivity standards
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience with evidence of
extensive training in a given specialty area
- Specialty areas may include but not limited to:
- Neuro-rehabilitation
- Brain injury
- Pediatrics
- Swallowing
- Current California State license in Speech Therapy (LIC
SLP)
- Current AHA CPR certification (CT CPRBLS)

- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to
work tactfully and effectively with fellow staff members physicians
hospital departments and the general public.
- Demonstrates knowledge of teaching and leadership skills
including a proficiency for conceptual thinking motivating teaching
principles and problem solving.
- Demonstrates advanced working knowledge of the principles
standard practices procedures and equipment utilized in the
department.
- Ability and willingness to actively participate in departmental
and hospital programs.
- Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to achieve results
through good organizational skills and prioritization of
work.
- Knowledge and understanding of pertinent standards and
regulations including DHS and The Joint Commission.
- Ability to gather comprehend and interpret data for Quality
Improvement activities.
- Ability to work independently and be a functional team member
in a team oriented environment.
- Ability to be mentor/coach student interns or oversee their
clinical experience.
- Ability to be flexible with caseload within any given day as
needed for the benefit of the department.
- Promotes S.T. services in the community as
appropriate.
