Imaging Sensors provides advanced imaging solutions for a variety of customers, including the DoD, NASA, prime system integrators, and commercial customers. In the civilian space arena, Teledyne sensors are the most advanced sensors on board the Hubble space telescope, and they are also found on board the majority of NASA space probes and ground based telescopes. In the DoD arena, Teledyne sensors are integrated into several major systems for persistent surveillance, chemical detection, and target identification, among others. Position Summary and Responsibilities Plans and directs Quality Assurance activities of the organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Director Mission Assurance serves as the primary quality assurance resource for the Teledyne Imaging Sensor organization and is responsible for the Mission Assurance management for the Launch Vehicle's Business Unit. Responsibilities included the oversite and management of the team of mission assurance managers who support all Teledyne programs. Defines and evaluates mission assurance program specifications and processes to ensure mission success of programs. Performs or assures quality, risk management, safety, subcontractors, and suppliers in accordance with contractual requirements. Assesses program performance and risks, and determines resources to ensure mission assurance.

Responsible for the creation of Mission Assurance strategies and plans to achieve reduced defects, improved supplier products, and successful delivery of image sensor systems to Teledyne's customer. Responsible for compliance to Teledyne and customer requirements as well as the creation of streamlined process to support vehicle assembly, and MA process execution.

Must have a wide range of knowledge of mission assurance techniques, practices and concepts in order to ensure good practices exist that are streamlined.

Must be proficient in process control and creation, contract understanding, quality management systems conforming to AS9100, metrics, root cause and corrective action, configuration management, MRB processes, manufacturing and be able to participate in technical issues and resolutions.

Must be proficient in Mission Assurance functional budget as well as program budgets. Must also be proficient in proposal management for support of major program awards and submittals. Ability to create and manage budgets, Cost Accounts, root cause and corrective actions, technical issues

Will be accountable for ensuring that overall budgets, schedules, and performance standards are met.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for interactions with business unit management, program management, customers and suppliers. Other responsibilities include:

• Instructs quality assurance personnel on quality control and analytical procedures.
• Supports concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer.
• Performs root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities regarding nonconformance of products and processes to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
• Communicates quality issues, trends and losses to all relevant organizational departments.
• Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
• Approves and submits proposals and budgets considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds, or allocates funds from department budget; Reviews proposals and budgets of reporting departments.
• Tracks industry trends, relevant legislation, and competitor activities.
• Serves as a member of unit's senior management team; Provides guidance and leadership to management including formulation or changes to policies under their purview.
• Establishes operational objectives and directs subordinates to achieve assignments by providing leadership, assigning tasks and checking work at appropriate intervals to determine status of assigned projects and ensure goals are met within organization goals of budget, time requirements and high level of quality.
• Identifies obstacles to achieving business goals and provides solutions or seeks out appropriate assistance; Determines allocation of resources and equipment.
• Interacts with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at various management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to inspire and gain cooperation of others, to conduct or aid other in conducting presentations or to exchange information.
• Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.-- Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, MES, ERP---)--Education and/or Experience:
    • Bachelor of Science degree plus 15 years of related Mission Assurance work experience; Master's degree plus 12 years of related Mission Assurance work experience.
    • 8 years of related management experience in Mission Assurance
    • Active or ability to receive a DoD Secret Security Clearance is required
