The current vacancy is a part-time position (12 months/year, 8 hours/week) located at Moorpark College's America's Teaching Zoo. All new employees must be fully vaccinated by the first day of employment. An exemption may be requested by individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to medical and/or religious reasons. Representative Duties Maintain and evaluate the enrichment program for zoo animals, including supervision of implementation of new enrichment. EAssist instructors in supervising the work of students at the college's Teaching Zoo, specifically with the zoo's enrichment protocols. EWork with instructors to demonstrate best practices in zoo enrichment to students. EProvide documentation and reports of the enrichment program for the animal population as well as the primate psychological well-being program to the U.S. Department of Agriculture; update the non-human primate psychological well-being program as needed. EDesign and produce educational materials for both students and the public on psychological well-being of non-human primates. EReview and monitor students animal enrichment records using the Teaching Zoo's record-keeping systems. EKeep apprised of changes and current trends related to animal enrichment practices; revise existing animal enrichment programs and develop new animal enrichment practices for the zoo. EAssist students with enrichment demonstrations for the public. EAssist veterinarian with capture, restraint, handling and medication of all animals, as needed.Ensure student compliance with rules and regulations of the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) program and the Teaching Zoo; assist with Student Handbook and Zoo Manual revisions. EProvide basic first aid to animals when needed.Operate vehicles including trailer-vehicle combinations, trucks, and vans.Perform related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications An associate degree from a recognized college or university OR possession of an EATM (or comparable) program certificate AND two years of professional experience working with non-domestic animals, including non-human primates. Experience working with students in an organized setting is desirable.LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Possession of valid CPR and First Aid certifications by the time of appointmentPossession of a valid California Driver's License by the time of appointmentSupplemental Information EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS: This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
