Eatons Fuel and Motion Control System division, a part of our Aerospace group, is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our Camarillo, California office.

Position Overview:

The Senior Product Engineer supports the production implementation of an umbilical retraction system, for missile applications, through the new product development lifecycle. This role will be required to trouble shoot development/prototype build processes at MRL6 and mature to MRL9 by the end of the program. This includes performing MRB activities, supporting configuration management through the maturity of the design process, and supporting the value stream mapping activities to generate a full production manufacturing cell.

This role will lead the design and execution of product packaging meeting the requirements of customer specifications as well as supporting complex manufacturing fixture design. You will act as the liaison for design for manufacturability, ensuring human factors are accounted for within the design, and provide the user support documentation on how to effectively utilize the umbilical retraction system. The Product Engineer performs project engineering work related to design and implementation; communicates expectations, plans, and requirements and coordinates through all cross functional disciplines.

This role will directly participate in customer meetings related to production readiness. Contributes effectively towards team goals and influences the work group and works beyond routine nature of tasks utilizing specialized knowledge to support internal and external customers.

In this function you will:

  • Implement human design factors into the design and executing customer deliverable items related to the usage and maintenance of the umbilical retraction system.
  • Coordinate the prototype manufacturing of products.
  • Conduct failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) of findings.
  • Develop products using 3D CAD using SolidWorks

    Required (Basic) Qualifications:
    • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university
    • Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience in an Automotive or Aerospace environment
    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
    • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee
    • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of Camarillo, CA will be considered

      Preferred qualifications:
      • Experience in the design and development of aerospace hold down/release mechanisms or electrical connectors.
      • Experience with PLM systems, i.e. ENOVIA or MatrixOne
      • Experience with MRP systems, i.e. SAP
      • Experience using Solidworks
      • Experience with stress analysis, including finite element modeling
      • DFSS Green Belt

        Position Criteria:
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed
        • Ability to work across site boundaries in a global virtual engineering organization
        • Ability to network and develop relationships with other Eaton Aerospace and non-Aerospace resources
        • Ability to develop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering
        • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles
        • Strong product design ability (Both new product & product modification)
        • Advanced knowledge in engineering report and specification writing
        • In-depth knowledge of mechanics of materials, statics, and dynamics
        • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and controls to create robust value streams
        • Ability to lead technical discussions and presentations for internal and external customers, including design reviews, non-advocate reviews and technical coordination meetings.
        • Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards.
        • Familiar with government regulations and industry standards on design and operation of aviation ground fueling equipment
